22-26th October 2008, The 12th MUSIAD International Trade Fair & International Business Forum
A soft change has been underway in Libya for some years now. The country is increasingly opening up politically and economically, and is emerging as a much-cherished partner for the West. These changes are also evidenced by ambitious major architectural and urban planning projects. These include the city expansion project Bab Tarablus/Tripoli Gate. The area totals 210 hectares and is at present one of the largest construction projects in Libya. The district lies on the Southwest edge of the Libyan capital and borders directly onto the future government quarter.
Located at the intersection of two interstates, the new district will clearly function as a gateway to the city. In the East, the Airport Road skirts the grounds, linking downtown to the airport. Moreover, a second interstate is planned that will run round the city like a tangential road. It will intersect the Airport Road, bisects the new quarter East/West and divides it in a 3:1 ratio. Tripoli Gate will offer visitors a first impression of the capital of Libya, as the district marks the transition from the commercial to the residential zones.
